Microsoft Social Engagement to be Discontinued
Microsoft has announced it will no longer offer Microsoft Social Engagement as part of any licence entitlement for new Dynamics 365 customers with immediate effect.
As part of its continuing investments in AI, Microsoft recently opened a public preview of Dynamics 365 for Market Insights which combines AI-powered insights through social and web interactions.
With social and web insights now offered through a single solution, Microsoft Social Engagement is being discontinued.
How Does This Affect Existing Microsoft Social Engagement Users?
Existing Dynamics 365 customers with entitlement to access Social Engagement can continue using the service until 16 January 2020. Monthly quota add-on's will continue to be available for customers to purchase until this date. However, after 16 January 2020 this service will be discontinued for all users.
In the meantime, Microsoft Social Engagement (MSE) users are recommended to try the public preview of Dynamics 365 for Market Insights. Pricing and licensing details will be available closer to its general availability release (expected April 2019).
When MSE users sign into Market Insights, the data and configurations from their MSE instance should be shown.
Through this new app, users will be able to gain social and web insights by monitoring external information sources, social media and trending Bing search terms. This will also report sentiment and intent analysis from social posts to replicate existing MSE functionality.
How Does Market Insights Compare to Social Engagement
In the public preview release, Market Insights currently contains the capabilities of Microsoft Social Engagement within the same UI in addition to the new Bing search insights. See a comparison between Market Insights & MSE.
The only exception to this seems to be the Social Selling Assistant which isn't currently shown as a Market Insights function. Further functionality and interfaces changes are expected prior to its general availability.
